PostSubject: What is the most difficult journey in your martial arts. Posted: 22 Sep, 2009 - 11:55   Tue Sep 22, 2009 4:03 am

Let's have a new topic about MA irregardless of styles. Think this is something new and not often touched. How many of us often encountered difficulties along the way instead of the normal difficult training?

There is no right/wrong answers, it is just a discussion, so please no fighting.

I will start 1st:

For me, there are 2 things I find it hard along the way is when one stop training for a period say 1 year & picked up again, although most of our gong still there but when we apply it on resisting partners, it sort of not so smooth and also quite physically demanding.

2ndly, when one gets older in age and endup with serious injuries, training is sort of a hindrance. For example, last year to my best memory, I had 4 major ones like elbow dislocation, upper and lower slipped disc, burst eardrum and hairline shin fracture in my training. recovery was slower than I thought. I was not as strong as before but this forced me to seek alternative training methods to overcome stronger opponents.

I believe that age should not be a reason to stop training, there is also yin alternative to yang training or mixed. As we am progressing, we take pride in our achievements.

Happy discussion!

I think the basic resistance, aerobic and relaxation exercise are important and it is my major activities. The major problem is time and endure. Once you stop for sometime, it is alway easy to get injure.

Yeah you are right, once stop, easy to get injure. I am already facing them at the moment. Now I truly understand what my deceased sifu used to tell me, the real meaning "一日不练,百日空“! I used to always wonder why he didn't use the normal words people use " 十日空“. Surprised

The common enemy of all martial arts participants is "laziness". Twisted Evil

The majority of MAist train because we/they want some form of recognition or results. The former tend to train harder cos they have expectations to meet. The latter like me will take sweet time and slowly co s I dun want to prove anything yet. Thus the former Maist will brand the latter as laziness.

Another hindsight, example when we do the horse-stand ( sei ping ma) for 15 mins, then someone will say "no la, 2 mins enuff", so laziness may set in here. Those with responsibility tend to train everyday so as not to disappoint their students. But ultimately I believe that it is the interest of MA that one will eventuallyovercome that "laziness". Good point on that common enemy part. I will add it in my MA vocab!

I train myself for two hours a day everyday.
So, I don't feel guilty having beer every night.
Alcohol is my major driving force to practise kungfu....

Ah, yes, I am a half student and a half academic bastard.
So, it is almost entirely up to me to decide when to come and leave and what to do next as long as I meet deadlines.

So, to make most of my situation here, I normally spend one hour in the morning before work and spare one hour after lunch. However, the price for the freedom is I have to work 10 hours a day and several hours at weekends.
So, some people call me a lab geek, cheap labour or simply a slave.

Practising Kungfu is the only way that I can run away from the harsh reality and put myself into my own fantasy world. So. it is more or less luxury to me.

HI Shingo

Honestly, I am really envy of your lifestyle and your work. Personally I don;t mind the long hours work like you if I can have the same freedom. money can buy gold or valuables, but it cannot buy true friendship and real freedom. Treasure it.. I think U are doing well..... Wink Kungfu is a way of life for me as well, it not only release my stress & make life meaningful, without it, I am absolutely sure I will end up either in a masoleum or a phycho ward....

Hahaha...I am not sure how long my freedom lasts.
If I get a position outside academia, I will be restricted by normal working hours.
Then it will be hard to get two hours for training.

It is a bonus that I become single again as freed from the previous painful marriage caused by a monstrous mother in law. Now I realised how much time I can spend just for myself by being single.

Cheers
