PostSubject: Kiai Master vs MMA   Sun Jan 30, 2011 1:15 am

This is an old clip - but I find it more interesting the more I think about it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEDaCIDvj6I&feature=youtube_gdata_player

My thinking is that the 'empty force' technique is real, but its actually more "Hypnotic" than giant bursts of Ki/Qi energy.
In medical Hypnosis the subject has to be 'open' & "attentive" to suggestions for it to work.
You cannot go under hypnosis if you mind is thinking of something else &/or ignoring the suggestions.

As for this clip:
I am guessing the MMA guy was probably talking to himself up & getting in the zone - hence the Kiai master could not influence the way he can 'willing' & "open" students.

I don't feel this clip makes the Kiai master skills a joke.
Its just this technique has limits - as does any technique.
Also there is always a counter to every technique.

If it is really a Hypnosis technique, it is not a martial arts.

If hypnosis really helps us in fight, except self-hypnosis, I think every martial arts had adapted it a long time ago.

Totally agree.
It is a skill, but no use when someone is intent on ripping your head off.

In true martials arts, someone(s) is always trying to rip your head off.

Sorry!!!! what i see from the video what that the MMA have his ways simply because at the beginning he did not intent ripping his head off that make him tactic work.

if he at the very start really intent to rip his opponent head off the outcome will be a bit different. Of course that have to base on you have not forget how to use physical skill to protect yourself before regaining the focus.

My point of view is base on 1st hand experience case like this.

Unfortunately for this Kiai master he could not punch or kick to defend himself - he had $5000 up for grabs to put the guy down using only his 'Ki'.

But if the technque failed the first time - what's to say it would ever work again in this fight.
He surely looked shocked when he got hit the first time. He just didn't expect it at all & never recovered his focus.

I've been watching more videos as I think its a very interesting subject.
I personally believe that there is "something' to it. Certainly not to the degree shown in some videos. They are exercising some artist element there.
But 'something' - as to what 'something' is ????????

If you have witnessed &/or experienced 'empty force' - ask your self 'what were the conditions' that made the people move.

Common to all the videos (except the win by MMA) I've watched.
*** When facing a master the students all lack the intent & intensity of an agressive &/or seasoned fighter. Some also take time to execute the technique, which you don't have the luxury in combat. ****
These points cannot be overlooked when trying to understand the technique objectively.

If there is another video where a Kiai Master wins over a seasoned fighter in an intense match - please someone, somewhere post it !!!!!!!!!
I would love to see it.

Image the hits you would get seeing someone like 'Mike Tyson' floored without a punch.

I believe as E.T. replied to my original post:
If it was a 'true' combat technique, then why isn't it wide spread in all martial arts ?

That's his over confidence his ki and forget his opponent don't need to have the intent to engage attack right away.

You can bring up 1500 word that still a your assumption because you watch did not try. To me the something is not air nor wind and also not pre-suggestion. there are also different level of doing it. Just like Tai Chi push hand.

Qi in Chinese word originally is not air wind. To me more like radio wave. you either power by yi or jing.

as i said you don't try ask and understand, how much you would know?

You are right.
I'll never really know & unless I get to meet a Master of "Empty force".
Maybe one day I can experience & make up my mind.
